10 Ways You're Washing Your Face Wrong

1. You use the wrong water temperature

Hot water will dry up your skin, while cold water will prevent your pores from opening. The optimal water temperature is tepid. It's not too hot or too cold.

2. You wash too often

People with dry skin may only need to cleanse once a day, while those with oily skin should wash at most twice a day.

3. You exfoliate too often

An exfoliating cleanser or device can remove dead skin cells and leave your skin gleaming. However, daily exfoliation can cause dryness and flakiness.

4. You use a dirty washcloth

A clean, soft washcloth can clean your face, but unless you use a fresh one every day, you should scrub with your hands. Change your face-drying towel every two days to prevent bacteria growth.

5. Your washcloth isn’t soft enough

A soft washcloth can be used to apply cleanser, but one that is too rough would be harsh on your skin. It's overly harsh anywhere you can feel the fibers.

6. You use facial wipes

Face wipes are better than nothing in a pinch, but they should not replace your regular face-washing routine. They do not cleanse the skin and contain chemicals.

7. You use the wrong products

Foaming washes are good for oily skin, while moisturizing washes are excellent for dry skin.

8. You use a soap-based product

Never use a soap-based cleanser in place of a non-soap cleanser. Soap-based products deplete the skin's natural oils, leaving it irritable, dry, and more prone to inflammation.

9. You rub in your cleanser wrong

To get the most out of your cleanser, rub it in with outer circles to promote blood flow and help lymph to transport waste from the tissues.

10. You rub too vigorously

To remove pollutants from your skin, you do not need to scrub vigorously. Gently massaging your cleanser into your skin will do the task without being too harsh.
