When it comes down to it, the normal burger patty should grill over medium-high heat for 3 to 4 minutes per side to get a good sear on the surface and some cooking on the inside.
Rare: If you like your patty red-pink all throughout, grill for about 2 minutes per side or 4 minutes total.
Medium-Rare: Grill for 2 1/2 minutes per side or 5 minutes total for a patty with a red-pink center and brown edges.
Medium: Grill for 3 1/2 minutes per side or 7 minutes total for a burger with a pink center and browned exterior.
Medium-Well: Grill for 4 1/2 minutes per side or 9 minutes total for a burger with a pink center and browned exterior.
Well-Done: Grill your burger for 5 minutes per side or 10 minutes total for a browned inside.
