National Hot Dog Day

The hot dogs (or tofu dogs) are perfect for a summer day at the amusement park or baseball stadium. Hot dogs can be cooked without meat and enjoyed year-round.

Hot dogs are available year-round, but July 19 is their most revered day.

History

The first hot dogs in America were called dachshund sausages because of their long shape, which resembled the adored canines.

In 1870, German immigrant Charles Feltman started selling hot dogs on Coney Island. He sold almost 3,600 franks in a bun that year.
