Popeyes is bringing back its popular Flounder Fish Sandwich and Shrimp Tackle Box for a limited period at stores nationwide to add to Lent's meatless alternatives.
The first fish sandwich was introduced by the fried chicken chain in 2021. Popeyes revived the sandwich in 2022, offering Classic and Spicy versions.
Popeyes' 2023 menu will offer the flounder sandwich in both varieties, a spokeswoman said. Fried flounder marinated in Louisiana herbs and spices is served on a toasted brioche bun with pickles and Popeyes Classic Tartar or Spicy Spread.
The sandwich debuted in 2021 to rave reviews and competed with Wendy's Crispy Panko Fish Sandwich and McDonald's Filet-O-Fish.
The Popeyes Classic sandwich tied Culver's North Atlantic Cod Filet Sandwich for first place in our rating last year. The Spicy version placed fourth, earning points for its breading and heat but losing points for its weaker fish.
Popeyes added the Flounder Fish Sandwich to its online menu before Lent begins on Feb. 22. The sandwich cost $5.99 at one New Jersey store, but prices may vary.
Popeyes is providing a free a la carte chicken or fish sandwich with a sandwich combo on the app or website for Valentine's Day. Popeyes representatives said the promotion runs from February 13 to 19.
Popeyes is also offering the Lent-friendly Shrimp Tackle Box for a limited period. The box contains eight breaded and fried butterfly shrimp seasoned with the chain's Louisiana herbs & seasonings.
