The Best Melanated Skin Care Ingredients & Treatments

1. Prescription Hydroquinone

Although it has become controversial over time, hydroquinone remains one of the best and most effective treatments for hyperpigmentation.

2. Retinoids, Vitamin C, Tranexamic Acid, Licorice Root, Niacinamide, and Kojic Acid

There are so many fantastic substances to aid with pigmentation these days, and retinoids, vitamin C, tranexamic acid, licorice root, niacinamide, and kojic acid are among my favorites.

3. SPF

If you only do one thing in the morning, make it applying sunscreen. When you combine sun exposure with the use of some of these acids, you will develop black patches.

4. Low Percentage Benzoyl Peroxide

Look for lesser concentrations, go slowly, and perform test spots before introducing a new substance to ensure there is no reaction.

5. Retinoids

Start with once or twice a week and gradually increase to three, four, or five times. Bonus: retinol helps heal acne and reduce inflammation, preventing dark spots.

6. Lasers and Light-Based Treatments

Laser technology has made considerable progress in safely treating darker skin, but IPL has not. Dark hair and spots are destroyed by light-based heat in IPL.

7. Injectables

Know how much Botox or fillers you need to get the desired result. Unfortunately, injectable medications are generally tested on non-diverse subjects and produce inconsistent outcomes.

8. Minoxidil

Skin care includes scalp care, and Henry points to a devastating “epidemic” of hair loss in patients of color. Skin of color has several genetic hair loss tendencies.
