Toyota's long-running hybrid tops Consumer Reports' reliability ranking. The Prius's 1.8-liter four-cylinder and electric powertrain produce 121 horsepower.

Honda's smallest vehicle is the 2021 HR-V, which replaces the Fit hatchback. The 141-hp four-cylinder in all variants is slow, so lead-footed drivers may be disappointed.

The plug-in hybrid Prius Prime has a 25-mile electric-only range with edgier design. On our 75-mph highway fuel efficiency test route, the Prius Prime achieved 49 mpg, somewhat better than the ordinary Prius.

The A5 is Audi's entry-level premium two-door coupe and convertible. All grades have a 261-horsepower turbocharged four-cylinder and Quattro all-wheel drive.
